DEAR SANTA
How we reimagined letters to Santa as a reusable centre asset that gives families a reason to return.
HEARTS
Letters to Santa is a tradition every centre reaches for — and precisely because it's everywhere, it's easy to make forgettable. Westfield Newmarket wanted a Christmas moment that felt genuinely magical, pulled families in, and could return year after year rather than being rebuilt from scratch each December.
So we went back to the essence of the ritual: a child, a wish, and the wonder of sending it to Santa. Instead of a postbox, we made something you could feel happen. A child leans in and whispers their wish into a gold speaking trumpet set on a beautifully finished plinth — and then watches it travel.
Working with a local lighting artist, we created a bespoke light trail that carries the wish along its journey to a second plinth, where a graphic treatment confirms it's reached Santa. Whisper, light, arrival — a small, complete piece of theatre that turns a passive tradition into something a child does with their own breath. And because the whole installation was engineered as a permanent asset, it packs down and comes back each Christmas — no rebuild, no re-spend.
